Software Upgrades

Empty
Why would the software on my Volumatic devices require an upgrade?

Occasionally, changes to banknotes in circulation mean that we will need to upgrade the software on some Volumatic devices to ensure they are up-to-date and working effectively.

Examples of these changes include:

  • The introduction of the new polymer notes in the UK, which happened a few years ago
  • The new King Charles III banknotes, which entered circulation in June 2024
  • If new/more sophisticated counterfeit notes enter any country’s circulation

Volumatic devices are regularly upgraded to ensure they always detect all known forgeries and new banknotes.

How often will my devices require a software upgrade?

Upgrades aren’t frequent and are usually quick and simple to perform – we will let you know as and when any updates are required.

Will I be informed by Volumatic if my device(s) require a software upgrade?

Yes, whenever any kind of software upgrade is made available by Volumatic, we will get in touch with you to outline your upgrade options, with full instructions on what to do and when.

Our Solutions – CounterCache Range

Empty
What are the main benefits of your CounterCache range?

Our CounterCache range increases POS security by storing your banknotes securely at POS, removing the temptation for till snatches and removing the need for skims.

What is the difference between the Basic and Classic CounterCache?

The CounterCache Basic is a low-cost entry model secure cash storage device. When it becomes full and the cash needs to be removed, the whole unit is taken from your shop floor and emptied in your back office.

In contrast, the CounterCache Classic includes an internal cassette that neatly collects the cash you insert into it, allowing you to safely remove your cash in the cassette at a time to suit you and replace it with an empty cassette. You can purchase additional cassettes if you need them, and the cassettes can also be used with tamper-evident seals to offer even more security.

How much cash can I store in a CounterCache?

Both our CounterCache devices can store between 600 and 700 banknotes of any denomination, depending on the material and age of the notes.

Our Solutions – Cash Trolleys

Empty
How many cash trolleys are in your range?

We currently offer two cash trolleys – the Cash Collection Trolley, and the Secure Cash Trolley.

What are the main benefits of your cash trolley range?

Volumatic’s range of cash trolleys help keep your cash safe as it moves through your business. Cash can be safely secured inside one of our robust, welded steel cash trolley units, ensuring that the risk of unauthorised removal is greatly reduced and making your team feel safer as they move the cash inside your money trolley around your business.

Can your cash trolleys accommodate other valuables or just cash?

You can transport cash, TruPouches, and all other smaller valuables in our range of cash trolleys.

Our Solutions – Friction Note Counters (FNCs)

Empty
What are the main benefits of your Friction Note Counter range?

Volumatic’s friction note counter (FNCs) range allows large volumes of banknotes to be counted quickly and accurately. The FC300 friction note counter also validates banknotes, meeting the Bank of England’s Gold Standard Framework Test requirements.

How much time will an FNC save my business?

The Volumatic Sales Team will be able to provide an estimate of savings following a review of your current process, which will enable them to recommend the appropriate solution. Contact them on +44 (0) 2476 684 217 or email info@volumatic.com

How many Friction Note Counters do you offer and what is the difference between them?

Volumatic currently offers two variants of Friction Note Counters:

  • FC75 – Our ‘piece’ note counter that identifies the number of pieces (banknotes) processed during a transaction. These devices are excellent for use within the Banking sector.
  • FC300 – our ‘value’ note counter, which validates mixed denominations whilst allowing them to be sorted into single denominations. This device is very effective when used in Casinos, Gaming and Wholesale businesses that are cash-heavy and accept payments in mixed denominations. The FC300 also acts as a forgery detector for all known counterfeit notes.

Our Solutions – Forgery Detectors

Empty
Do you offer a basic forgery detector?

Yes, we offer a choice of two basic counterfeit note detectors – the BV20 SD and the BV30 SD. Both of these devices are compact and discreet forgery detectors if you’re looking for accurate and simple-to-use devices that can sit discreetly at your till point. The BV20 SD detects forgeries for all UK and European notes, while the BV30 SD can detect forgeries for UK, European and U.S. banknotes. And as both their names suggest, they can be easily updated via an SD card.

Do any of your other solutions detect counterfeit notes?

Yes, both the CCi all-in-one solution and the FC300 friction note counter can also detect forged banknotes.

Do your forgery detectors meet the Bank of England framework?

Both the BV30 SD and the FC300 have passed the Bank of England’s Framework Test for banknote machines, which means they will reject all known forgeries in current circulation.

Empty

Cash Industry

Empty
Are we really heading towards a cashless society?

The short and simple answer to this is a resounding ‘NO’! While cash use has declined over the last decade, with the introduction of more sophisticated mobile and digital payments, cash is still very much alive and well.

While many businesses chose to go cashless during the pandemic, the majority of companies are now happy to accept cash again. Since the cost-of-living crisis hit, the use of cash is rising as it helps people budget more effectively. Cash usage is enjoying a resurgence with younger people, who are fans of ‘cash-stuffing’ (as demonstrated on multiple Tik-Tok videos) and remains a key payment method in multiple demographics.  The majority of the country still use cash for at least some of their regular purchases.

Volumatic’s own whitepaper research conducted in 2021, Consumers Demand Payment Choice, written in partnership with other industry experts including the Bank of England, Vaultex and Enryo found that UK consumers still very much wanted the choice of paying by cash. This view was further supported by the retailers we met with at our Cash 2030 conference in 2022 and by The Cash Census Report from the RSA.

In 2023 the government passed a new law to protect consumer’s access to cash and we’re seeing a resurgence in people wanting to protect it as a payment choice, now and in the future, so, despite media reports to the contrary, the UK is a long way from becoming a cashless society.

Does using cash help to spread COVID and other viruses?

During the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020, when confusion was still rife about how the virus could be spread, there were a lot of media reports claiming that using cash could spread the virus, prompting many retailers to go cashless. These claims were unfounded and completely untrue, and in late 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) issued a statement confirming that cash posed no greater risk than any other payment option, and Volumatic is committed to helping consumers and businesses understand that cash is most definitely not ‘dirty money’.

What are the benefits of using cash for businesses?

From keeping your customers happy to saving money on rising card payment fees, there are lots of benefits to your business continuing to accept cash – and of course, Volumatic can help you with all elements of your cash handling requirements. Read our article ‘Five key advantages of cash’ for more information.

What happens now that the new King Charles III polymer banknotes have entered circulation?

As announced by the Bank of England, all denominations of the new polymer banknotes featuring King Charles III entered circulation on 5th June 2024. They are now being introduced gradually and the notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II will still remain legal tender alongside the new notes for the forseeable.
