Employees from Coventry-based cash-handling company Volumatic had a chance to share their joy at Coventry City FC’s recent promotion to the Premier League with the BBC CWR Breakfast Show team on Friday, as presenter Lorna Bailey popped into their HQ to interview them.
The current BBC CWR Breakfast Show, which launched in early March 2026, with Bailey at the helm, features the usual mix of morning banter and news from around Coventry, but also has a keen focus on the Sky Blues – the city’s only league football club, which has gone through something of an emotional rollercoaster since being relegated from the Premier League 25 years ago.
Since winning the Championship Title last month, with automatic promotion to the Premier League, the CWR Breakfast Show has been keen to hear from fans around the city and asked for Coventry workplaces to contact the show so they could visit them and hand out their Coventry City CWR car stickers.
Hearing the call, lifelong Coventry City fan Sara Phipps, Finance & Admin Assistant at Volumatic, contacted Laura and arranged a visit to the Volumatic head office to interview the CCFC supporters in their team.
Several members of the Volumatic team – which has been a Coventry business for over 50 years – shared their stories of being a Sky Blues fan, including Jonah Winkless and Manjit Dhillon from Customer Support, and Zoe Macleay and Madison James from Sales & Marketing, all of whom are Coventry born-and-bred and have supported Coventry City through thick and thin.
Asked about what promotion to the top flight of football means to them and the city, it was clear from everyone that it meant a great deal, with some members of the team only babies when Coventry City were last in the Premier League, and others remembering the heartache at being relegated back in 2001 by local rivals Aston Villa.
Those interviewed all agreed that what their team had delivered this season has been an incredible achievement and that Coventry Manager Frank Lampard, Owner Doug King, and all the Coventry City players had brought pride back to the city, with celebrations from the fans and residents over the May Bank Holiday weekend at the start of this month echoing the celebrations seen back in 1987, when Coventry City won the FA Cup.
Sara, a regular contributor to Coventry & Warwickshire radio, alongside her husband, Rich, said: “We are finally back where we belong, back in the big time, back after 25 long, painful, unbelievable years. This isn’t just promotion for Coventry City, it’s history – play up, Sky Blues!”
Volumatic’s Digital Content Manager Zoe added: “Coventry City fans are the best and the whole city has been celebrating as we did back in 1987 – it’s brought back a whole host of special memories for us and the entire city.”
