College Surgery Partnership

“Volumatic allowed us a free trial of the FC75 and it has revolutionised our prescription processing!”

Kyla Dawe, Practice Manager, College Surgery Partnership

College Surgery Partnership is a group of NHS GP practices based in Devon, operating five surgeries across the county.

Rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as ‘Outstanding’, the College Surgery Partnership prides itself on excellent patient care.

Frustrated at having to hand count their patients’ prescriptions each day, wasting valuable time, they wanted to find a more efficient way – and then a colleague from another surgery suggested Volumatic…

The Challenge

With thousands of patients coming through each of their GP surgeries, College Surgery Partnership issues a large number of prescriptions every week. In addition to all of the usual practice admin completed by their busy team, they were having to manually count patients’ prescription slips each day – which took hours each week and was something they felt was an inefficient use of their staff resources.

The Solution

Followers of an online NHS forum, a member of the team from the College Surgery Partnership heard from a colleague they knew at another practice that they had recently invested in a piece counter machine from cash handling experts Volumatic and suggested they give it a try.

Keen to eliminate counting by hand, Practice Manager Kyla Dawe contacted Volumatic to see if we could help, and we recommended our FC75 piece counter. Although primarily intended to count banknotes, the Volumatic FC75 also has the capability to count other small pieces of paperwork, making it perfect for items like prescription slips. The machine is currently used by many GP surgeries and pharmacies across the UK.

“We would be happy to recommend Volumatic to any other GP surgery out there looking to save valuable time spent hand-counting prescriptions.”

The Outcome

Kyla was initially a little apprehensive that a machine originally built as a note counter would be able to accurately count prescription slips. To ease their concerns and confident that the FC75 piece counter was worthy of the job in hand, Volumatic offered the College Surgery Partnership team a free trial of the FC75.

After trialling the FC75 piece counter for a week, they were so impressed with how much the piece counter machine increased their efficiency, they purchased the machine straight away.

They were delighted at the amount of time saved by the team not having to hand-count prescriptions any more – time that could now be spent looking after their patients. They were impressed with the speed and the reliability of the machine and also praised Volumatic’s “very good” customer service throughout their contact with the Sales team here.

Practice Manager Kyla Dawe said: “We were apprehensive about whether a cash counter would work for our prescriptions, but Volumatic allowed us a free trial and it has quite simply revolutionised our processing!”
