Challenges Faced by The British Library

Established back in 1973, The British Library receives copies of all books produced in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with items in many languages and in many formats, both print and digital: books, manuscripts, journals, newspapers, magazines, sound and music recordings, videos, play-scripts, patents, databases, maps, stamps, prints and drawings. 

While many items are display only or can only be viewed in the library itself, many other tems can be borrowed by the general public, like at every other library. The British Library charge a fee for items borrowed and fees for late returns, but daily manual cash counting was taking library employees away from spending time in other areas of the business, including customer service for those wanting to use the library for research purposes.
