Tesco

Tesco is a British grocery retailer, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom, who serve millions of customers every week, in stores and online.

Founded in 1919, Tesco began as a market stall in the East End of London. Today they operate 4,752 stores in five markets: the UK, Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, serving millions of customers every week, in stores and online.

Tesco is one of the leading food retailers in Europe. It serves customers in stores as well as online and is the UK’s biggest supermarket.

Volumatic formed a strategic partnership with Tesco to find a solution that fitted Tesco’s objective of improving the efficiency of their cash handling process.


Challenges Faced by Tesco

Tesco tested a number of cash handling solutions but struggled to find one that met their requirements. With the increase in the National Living Wage driving their need to increase efficiency, Tesco were looking for a solution that could drive cost-effectiveness, enhance security and prioritise customer experience. Tesco’s goal was to create an automated system to improve operations and give store colleagues more time to focus on customer-facing activities.


The Volumatic Solution

Tesco visited the Retail Expo in London where Volumatic introduced their CCi one-touch cash handling solution to the Tesco team. Tesco immediately recognised the benefits and began trialling the Volumatic CCi in one of their Tesco Express stores.

Following a successful trial, Tesco could integrate the CCi within their existing Storeline EPOS system and our uniquely designed floor mount enclosure was also integrated into their existing till furniture to give further peace of mind to their colleagues. The CCi passed both rigorous lab and store environment tests and Volumatic were able to easily incorporate these devices into Tesco’s existing EPOS system, ready for a slick and efficient implementation across the Tesco estate.


The Outcome

Tesco has seen significant benefits from the rollout of nearly 7,000 CCi units across their Tesco Express and Tesco Metro stores. From providing a more secure unit that has resulted in a vast drop in cash losses and increased productivity, the CCi’s forgery detection capabilities have also helped stores to reduce counterfeits to virtually nothing.
